About Loras College

Loras College is a four-year Catholic university located in Dubuque, which is the county seat of Dubuque County, situated in the US state of Iowa, with more than 57 000 people, living within its limits (2008), which makes it the 8th largest city in the state.

Loras was established in 1839 and it is one of 3 Catholic colleges in the Archdiocese of Dubuque and one of 4 four-year post-secondary institutions in the City of Dubuque, offering both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. It was founded by the Most Rev. Mathias Loras, first bishop of Dubuque, and became co-ed in the fall of 1971.

Athletics

Loras' athletic teams are known as the Duhawks and they compete in 21 men's and womn's varsity sports, in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are gold and purple and their mascot is Dewey the Duhawk.
